The Churchill Mk VII was a heavily armoured development of Britain's Churchill infantry tank and entered service during the later stages of the Second World War. Its thick armour, wide tracks and excellent ability to cross difficult terrain made it particularly effective when supporting infantry in assaults against prepared defensive positions.

The Churchill Crocodile adapted the Mk VII by replacing the hull machine gun with a powerful flame projector supplied from an armoured fuel trailer towed behind the tank. Retaining its turret-mounted 75mm gun, the Crocodile combined conventional tank firepower with a highly effective close-assault weapon and saw extensive use by British forces from Normandy through the campaign in North-West Europe.
